Good Morning, Hula Girl! How Do We Do It? How Can We Get Out of This Funk, This Lost Feeling?

Good morning, Hula Girl! 🌅

Today, I want to talk about something that so many of us go through but don’t always talk about openly—feeling lost or “stuck in a funk.” When everything feels all over the place, it’s easy to wonder, “How do we get out of this? Where do we even begin?” It’s a question that can feel overwhelming, especially when we’re already weighed down by stress, anxiety, or isolation.

The Reality of Feeling Lost and Isolated

You’re not alone if you’re feeling this way. In fact, studies show that many women and girls experience feelings of being lost, isolated, or disconnected from their goals and purpose.

  • Statistics on Isolation and Loneliness: According to a study by The American Psychological Association, over 61% of women report feeling lonely or isolated. This feeling is especially common in younger women and teenage girls, who often struggle with social pressures, self-doubt, and a lack of support.

  • Increased Rates of Depression and Anxiety: Women are twice as likely as men to experience anxiety disorders and depression, according to the National Institute of Mental Health. This can leave many feeling stuck, unable to move forward, and without a clear direction.

  • Social Media and Comparison: Research from The Royal Society for Public Health found that social media contributes to feelings of inadequacy and isolation for many young women. Constantly comparing ourselves to others online can leave us feeling lost or less than enough.

These statistics highlight just how common it is to feel this way, especially in a world that can sometimes seem isolating. But even though so many of us experience this feeling, it doesn’t make it any easier to navigate. So, how do we start finding our way back to ourselves?

Taking the First Step to Get Out of the Funk

  1. Acknowledge and Accept Your Feelings: The first step is recognizing and accepting that you feel lost. This can be one of the hardest steps because it requires vulnerability. But being honest with yourself is empowering. Remember, it’s okay to admit when you’re struggling. You’re not alone in this.

  2. Start Small with Daily Actions: When everything feels chaotic, big changes can feel impossible. Instead, try focusing on one small action each day. This could be as simple as making your bed, going for a short walk, or journaling for a few minutes. Small actions can have a big impact on our mindset and help build momentum.

  3. Connect with Others: Isolation often worsens feelings of being lost. Reach out to someone—a friend, family member, or counselor. Even a simple conversation can remind you that you’re not alone. Supportive relationships provide encouragement and understanding and can offer a fresh perspective.

  4. Reflect on What You Truly Want: Take some time to consider what’s important to you. What brings you joy or a sense of fulfillment? Start by writing down a few things, even if they seem small or insignificant. Reflecting on your values and passions can guide you when you feel directionless.

  5. Practice Self-Compassion: It’s easy to be hard on ourselves when we feel stuck or lost. But remember, everyone has moments of uncertainty. Treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer a friend. Remind yourself that it’s okay to take your time and that you’re doing the best you can.

Today’s Reflection:

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
(Joshua 1:9)

This verse reminds us that even when we feel lost, we are not alone. There is strength and guidance available to us if we’re willing to take that first small step, trust the process, and believe that we’ll find our way.

Where Do We Go from Here?

Getting out of a funk isn’t easy, and it won’t happen overnight. It’s a journey of small steps, honest conversations, and moments of self-reflection. You don’t have to have all the answers right now. All you need is the courage to start, even if it’s a tiny step forward.

If you’re feeling lost, know that you’re not alone. There’s a whole community here to support you, and together, we can navigate the journey back to ourselves.

How do you take the first step when you’re feeling lost? I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. Let’s support each other in moving forward, one step at a time.
